We offer hope, but not guarantees for recovery.

Unfortunately, after 43 days of fighting this disease, our techniques will have the odds heavily stacked against saving this puppy. I really feel for you because my wife and I fought for three weeks to save one of our puppies, with 24-hour nursing care, and the pup died at the vets. That was a year before we found Dr. Al Sears who saved another of our dogs from distemper before it even got to the neural phase. If you e-mail me directly at ed.bond.new.york@gmail.com, I can talk to you about the possibilities at this point. Make sure to tell me where you are and how old this puppy is.Ed Bondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11687546673878411419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849879981949179062.post-59874949710478818012011-10-16T05:40:09.712-07:002011-10-16T05:40:09.712-07:00I have a puppy that is in about day 43 or so of th...I have a puppy that is in about day 43 or so of this nightmare. I hoped he would be one of the few that would make it. He had such a mild first phase of the disease with only traces of the usual symptoms. Now he is into the neurological phase and has twitches in and has lost the use of all of his limbs. He is not paralyzed but has quit trying to get up because he cannot support his weight and has no balance. His head also has a twitch and it leans to one side. I have seen him have only one seizure but I think he has some very small ones that I can't identify as seizures. I sometimes hear his teeth clicking together. From the beginning, he cried around the clock but since starting on phenobarbital, he has some stretches of peaceful sleep that sometimes last 5 hours or so. However, I know he is suffering so much because he still is either crying or sleeping. I have read that some pups survive and recover from even severe neurological symptoms. How in the world can anyone know when it is time to stop hoping for recovery and relieve the misery with euthanasia? I don't want to ask the vet because I am pretty sure they don't expect any dog to survive this and with that attitude I think they might be more apt to "jump the gun."Janie Ellingtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09693048475717655548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849879981949179062.post-6386056849655558982009-02-18T15:52:00.000-08:002009-02-18T15:52:00.000-08:00Thanks to Pippit for the info above on getting the...Thanks to Pippit for the info above on getting the vaccine.Ed Bondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11687546673878411419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849879981949179062.post-40036903598151187582009-02-18T12:08:00.000-08:002009-02-18T12:08:00.000-08:00Repost from the Facebook page:Where To Get NDVHere...Repost from the Facebook page:

Where To Get NDV

Here is a source, Jeffers Livestock, where you can order NDV (B1 strain) online. Along with that came a bacterial infection first presenting as little red pustules on her abdomen, and then as red, blistery and sometimes bleeding areas between her toes and pads of the front feet. My vet believes this to be Staph.

If any of you run into this problem maybe this will help. My vet prescribed the following;

* Cephalexin 500 Mg. every 12 hours for 14 days (antibiotic capsules)

* GenOne Spray to be sprayed on affected areas 2-3 times/day for 14 days (antiseptic/antibiotic spray containing gentamycin sulfate)

* 3V Caps Liquid (Dietary Supplement containing Fish Oil plus antioxidants (2 pumps into food for a 40-59 Lb. dog to strengthen immune system)

* PetTabs multivitamins (also to strengthen immune system; can obtain at vet or any pet supply store)

(Some have had good success using probiotics as well for stints of a few weeks at a time).Giftbearerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11698066439644185753noreply@blogger.com
